You need to be at least 17 years of age before you can start to learn to drive with a valid provisional licence before you take your first driving lessons.
Complete a D1 form from the post office and send it to the DVLA with your passport or birth certificate, and a passport-sized photo. You can apply online also.
Apply for a provisional licence up to three months before your 17th birthday, and you could book your first driving lesson for the big day!
What lessons will you need?
After your first lesson, your Parks Driving instructor will discuss with you how long you will likely need to pass your test and become a safe driver for life. The current average is 45 hours of tuition (Driving Standards Agency average) with 22 hours of private practice. It is recommended that 2 hour lessons can help you learn faster.
